Taiwan university to assist US venture in Saudi aquaculture project
A Taiwan university is supplying its aquaculture know-how to a US aquaculture venture in Saudi Arabia.
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Tainan City in southern Taiwan signed the contract Tuesday (October 17, 2007) with DevCorp International an American venture operating in the Arabian Gulf area, the China Post reported.
Under the contract, the NCKU will provide a biomedical product developed by the school to the company, a spokesman from the university told China Post.
The fish farming project has received attention from the cabinet-level Council for Economic Planning and Development, the spokesman added.
According to the company's website, DevCorp specializes in developing ventures in the Arabian Gulf countries. Its strengths are the operating and financing experience of its principals, the application of that experience from its base within the Gulf, and a proactive operating style. DevCorp originates, develops, and invests in joint ventures with foreign and local partners and actively participates in project implementation.
James L. Greenberg, Chairman and Managing Director of Devcorp, started and built two joint venture companies in Saudi Arabia as General Manager. The integrated shipping, transport, and project management group participated in major infrastructure projects of the Kingdom in the 1970s and 1980s. The defense services company played an active support role to both US and Saudi forces during the Gulf War and is now one of the largest defense services companies in Saudi Arabia. In 1995 he became one of the two founding partners of DevCorp.
