Brazil January-September beef exports up 18 percent

 

 

Brazilian beef exports this year totalled US$3.2 billion through September, posting an increase of 18 percent than the first nine months of 2006, data from the Brazilian Meat Exporters Association (Abiec) show. Shipments totalled 1.964 million tonnes, a 12.44 percent volume increase from the same period.

 

In September, revenues were US$360.1 million, up 2 percent from the same period.  Export volume during the month totalled 193,500 tonnes, down 4.21 percent.

 

Russia was the major buyer of Brazilian beef in natura with 469,400 tonnes worth US$632.4 million. Abiec said Russian export grew 84 percent in volume and 58 percent in value. Egypt also maintained its position as the second largest importer of Brazilian beef with revenues of US$283.596 million and volume of 223,678 tonnes.
