Ukraine lowers 2006 grain harvest forecast to 34.7 million tonnes

Ukraine's agriculture ministry Monday (Oct 16) said the country's grain harvest this year was likely to be 34.7 million tonnes and not 35.3 million tonnes it forecast Oct 11.

The lower grain harvest forecast was attributed to adverse weather conditions.

The earlier forecast included an estimate of 14.4 million tonnes of wheat.

In 2005, Ukraine harvested 38.02 million tonnes of grain, including 18.7 million tonnes of wheat.
