UK seafood testing company seeks entry to China's market

Intergrin Advanced Biosystems, the pioneering Scottish marine bio-discovery company, has announced plans to expand into the Chinese seafood market.

Managing director Dr Douglas McKenzie said the company is negotiating a deal to provide seafood testing and certification for China's seafood industry.

Integrin, which earlier this year was recognised for best innovation at the Highlands & Islands Business Awards, posted a retained profit of GBP 73,432 (US$136,000) for the 12 months to the end of March.

Integrin offers seafood testing, research and consultancy services for clients such as supermarket chain J Sainsbury, Loch Fyne Oysters and Scottish Shellfish Marketing.

Integrin last year managed to clinch a three-to-five year contract to monitor shellfish for the Food Standards Agency Scotland, making it the first private company to carry out this work, which was handled previously by government research laboratories.
