Vietnam to inquire about US seafood regulations

A Vietnamese delegation from the National Fisheries Quality Assurance and Veterinary Directorate (NAFIQAVED) would visit the US to inquire about American seafood regulations.

NAFIQAVED would work with the US Food and Drug Administration and relevant government agencies, to study US regulations governing management of antibiotic residue in seafood. The delegation would also inform the US government about Vietnam's progress towards managing the antibiotic issue, and make assurances about Vietnam's food safety policies.

Vietnam's government had already asked NAFIQAVED to closely monitor and prohibit use of banned chemicals and antibiotics in seafood farming, preservation and processing. NAFIQAVED was also urged to cooperate with the health, agriculture and trade ministries to ensure Vietnam's fisheries export policies were enforced.
