Czech Republic's 2013 grain crop may rise 22%

Due to improving crop yields of most grains excluding rye amid favourable weather in key summer months, Czech Republic's 2013 grain harvest is expected to soar by more than 22% compared with last year's harvest.

This was informed by the Czech Statistics Office, or CSU.

The overall harvest is now estimated at 6.898 million tonnes this year, higher than then 6.746 million tonnes forecast a month earlier and well up from the 5.645 million tonnes of total grains harvested in 2012.

The estimate is based on data collected from local farmers up to September 15.

The wheat crop yield forecast is expected to rise 32% on-year to 5.70 tonnes/hectare and the estimated crop yield of rapeseed is seen rising 25% annually to 3.45 tonnes/hectare, the CSU said.

Barley yields are expected to increase by 10% at 4.67 tonnes a hectare in 2013. Only rye yields are seen declining, falling 1.9% annually to 4.72 tonnes/hectare, the CSU said.
