China's corn production to rise 1.3% in 2012
China's corn production is estimated to increase 1.3% on year to 195 million tonnes for 2012.
According to results of a survey by leading domestic futures broker, COFCO Futures, corn output in the northeastern China provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning will dip 0.8% from last year to 79.45 million tonnes affected by rainstorms in late August, while north China will produce 65.56 million tonnes of corn, up 3.2% over the preceding year, due to rise in unit yield.
COFCO Futures' projection is also in line with that of the state-backed think-tank, China National Grain and Oils Information Centre. The centre earlier estimated this year's corn output at 197 million tonnes.
China's autumn grain has just entered the harvest time. The autumn grain crops mainly include corn, and middle and late-season rice, and they yield about 80% of China's full year grain output.
