Ukraine oilseed output seen nearly 9 million tonnes

 

 

The general production volumes of oilseeds in Ukraine are expected to be at the level of nearly 9 million tonnes this year, according to Ukroliyaprom general director Stepan Kapshuk.

 

This will include 1.89 million tonnes of rapeseed, 950,000 tonnes of soy and 6.1 million tonnes of sunflower.

 

Kapshuk said that Ukraine is gradually increasing the sowing areas of oilseeds. In 2009, Ukraine sowed 1.4 million hectares of rapeseed and 600,000 hectares of soy. The general sowing areas totaled over 6 million hectares.

 

He noted that Ukraine has increased its oilseed production over the last five years, adding that the world market has seen demand grow for rapeseed and soy production.

 

He attributed part of this change to the general trends of demand in vegetable oils on the world markets of vegetable oils due to the growth of oils usage in biofuel production.
