Russia to lift all AH1N1-related meat bans
Russia will from October 15 lift all remaining meat import bans related to the AH1N1 virus as the risk of infection through meat consumption is low, according to the Russian animal and plant health agency Rosselkhoznadzor.
The last remaining bans to be removed apply to live pigs and raw pork imports from Great Britain and three Japanese prefectures, as well as on all meat types from Mexico, Central America and some Caribbean states.
Risks of infection through food products is negligible as the disease is spreading in Russia from human to human, said the agency.
Rosselkhoznadzor said it would stop imposing bans on meat imports linked to the discovery of AH1N1 in humans, but it may impose new bans if the virus was found in animals of exporting countries.
