British livestock producers urged to take opportunities with weak pound

British livestock producers were urged to take export opportunities of the weaker pound against the Euro, which could last as long as two to three years, the National Farmers Union (NFU) Council said.

The weak pound also presented opportunities in the Arab countries, NFU livestock board chairman Alistair Mackintosh said.

Cattle prices were now firm, and some producers were holding on to their finished stock during seasonal price dips until the returns improved, Mackintosh said.

An EBLEX export campaign was already boosting British sales to France, said Mackintosh.
