Mexican poultry company planning exports to the U.S.
Mexico's largest poultry producer and processor, Industrias Bachoco SAB, plans to export chicken products into the US by 2009, according to Miami-based newspaper El Nuevo Herald.
Bachoco is currently building a processing facility in the State of Sonora, about 160 miles south of Nogales, Arizona. The new plant would begin operations in the second quarter of 2008, and exports would start in 2009.
The company aims to market poultry products to Mexican immigrants in the US, who are familiar with the Bachoco brand.
Initial production would be 300,000 birds per week, eventually rising to 1 million birds per week, the newspaper said.
