Canada lowers 2007/08 grain, oilseed ending-stocks estimate
Ending stocks of the eight major grains and oilseeds in Canada in the 2007/08 (August/July) crop year will be slightly lower than an estimate made in September and the level seen during the 2006/07 season, according to updated supply/demand tables from the market analysis branch of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
Ending stocks of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2007/08 were pegged at 10.510 million tonnes, down slightly from the September 17 projection of 10.671 million and compared with the 2006/07 level of 13.012 million.
The eight major grains and oilseeds are canola, flaxseed, soy, wheat, oats, barley, corn and rye.
Production of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2007-08 was pegged at 60.848 million tonnes, which was down fractionally from the Sept. 17 projection of 61.177 million and the 61.865 million produced in 2006-07.
Total exports of the eight major grains and oilseeds from Canada during 2007/08 were expected to hit 27.440 million tonnes. This would be up slightly from the September projection of 27.290 million tonnes, and it compares with the 2006/07 level of 32.069 million.
Total domestic usage of the grains and oilseeds for 2007/08 was estimated at 38.617 million tonnes. This was down from the 39.065 million tonnes projected in September and compares with the 2006/07 level of 38.095 million.
Below is the October 12 estimates for Canadian 2007-08 (August/July), and 2006-07 grain and oilseed supply and demand. Domestic usage numbers include food and industrial use as well as feed, waste and dockage. All figures are in million tonnes.
