China to issue grain import quotas for 2010

China will issue low-tariff grain import quotas for 2010, which include wheat, corn, cotton and rice, as part of its World Trade Organisation joining commitments.

The quota levels remain unchanged from this year, according to the National Development and Reform Commission.

The quota for wheat is set at 9.64 million tonnes and 7.2 million tonnes for corn, of which 90 percent of the wheat quota and 60 percent of the corn quota will go to state-owned companies.

Meanwhile, the quota for rice is set at 5.32 million tonnes and 894,000 tonnes for cotton.
