Tajikistan to ban cattle and meat exports

Tajikistan has introduced a ban on the export of cattle and animal products, according to reports.

Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon made such a statement on Tuesday (Oct 12), the president's press service said.

"The president has taken such a decision to protect domestic producers and regulate prices on the republic's food market," the source said.

Local experts say the ban on the export of local goods, except for potatoes, mainly concerns trade organised at special trade outlets on the border with China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

"Residents of border regions usually exchange cattle from Tajikistan's Pamir Mountains to Uzbekistan's fabric, sweets and household appliances," they said.
