Turkey's bird flu is H5N1, EC says

The bird flu in Turkey is the pathogenic H5N1, EC's Health and Consumer Protection chief Markos Kyprianou announced on Oct 13.

He now recommended an increase of vaccination among the population who are more at risk for the seasonal flu, and also as part of the plan to deal with a potential pandemic.

The EU also said it plans to extend its import ban on live birds and feathers from Turkey until April 2006.
