China's milk imports at 28% rise on-year
Statistics from the China Chamber of Commerce of Foodstuffs and Native Produce shows 844,000 tonnes of milk imports to China through a self-service system from January to August 2012, an increase of 28.4% on-year.
China's import of milk products grew 26.2% on year to US$2.97 billion in the first eight months of 2012. An official of the Ministry of Commerce expressed China's import of milk products has kept an annual growth of above 25% in recent years. Meanwhile, foreign milk companies enhance investment on pasture breeding and milk production in China.
