Bangladeshi one-day-old chicken price hits record high
The price of one-day-old chickens has gone beyond the viable limit of BDT82 (US$1.16) resulting in closure of almost 50% of the poultry farms in Nilphamari, Bangladesh.
This price hike has taken place both in the case of broiler and layer category poultry chickens and consequently layer poultry farms are also on the verge of closure.
Price of egg has gone up per dozen. On the other hand, price of poultry feed has also gone up abnormally.
Akmal Hossain, one big local layer farm owner, said that he had 3000 layer hens but at present he has been compelled to close his farm due to loss making situation.
Local poultry farm owners demanded urgent steps of the government to minimise the price of chickens so that the industry can survive.
