Iowa State University to host pig farm emissions conference

Iowa State University (ISU) will host a national conference on ways to reduce air emissions from livestock production facilities.

The conference, ''Mitigating Air Emissions from Animal-Feeding Operations,'' is slated for May 19-21, 2008 at the Hotel Fort Des Moines in Des Moines, Iowa.

The conference would aim to offer practical information on mitigation strategies, applications and their costs.

Besides technical sessions on air emission mitigation strategies, the general session will include invited presentations from national and international experts.

The conference would also feature the European perspective on regulations and mitigation technologies which would be valuable to the US industry, the planning committee said.

Europe has a higher animal density and thus tougher emissions law. Europeans are thus more experienced in the area of economic viability and mitigation technologies.

The university's website at http://www.abe.iastate.edu/wastemgmt/mitigation provides details on paper submission and registration.
