Vietnam's Khanh Hoa province continue to see rise in seafood exports
Vietnam's Khanh Hoa province is gradually showing its potential in seafood exports as the province accounts for 8.6 percent of the country's total seafood shipments and posting an average growth rate of 13 to 15 percent in seafood exports annually.
Key seafood products from Khanh Hoa include frozen products, dry processed products, fresh products and live products. Over 50 different kinds of seafood products from the province have been exported all over the world.
With advantages in natural conditions, geographical position and natural resources, Khanh Hoa continues to invest in processing technology, diversifying products and expanding markets. The province targets to earn US$310 million from seafood exports by 2010, accounting for 60-65 percent of the province's total export turnover.
However, there are challenges that Khanh Hoa has to overcome and one of them is the shortage in processing materials, causing some enterprises sourcing their materials from abroad.
Khanh Hoa's aquaculture production is still low compared to other provinces despite its favourable ecological conditions as programmes for quality management systems and aquaculture development are still lacking.
To resolve these issues, local authorities and industry players are pooling their resources together to continue profitable exports in their markets.
