*Commonly referred to in China as liquid methionine is methionine hydroxyl analogue, a liquid source of supplemental methionine.

Market analysis

Plummeting broiler prices during September dampened feed millers' buying interest for methionine. Expecting demand to remain slack during October and November, several methionine distributors and traders lowered prices in efforts to move sales.

In Europe, prices of methionine for Q4 deliveries remained at EUR2.80-2.83/kg, while spot prices were unchanged in the range of EUR2.90-3/kg.

Market forecast

Methionine sales will stay weak with the livestock feed demand poised to remain sluggish. Feed millers, who are more prudent than usual, will maintain low stocks and purchases as and when required.
