Australia's wheat exports continue to grow every year
Since the single desk was dismantled, Australian Bureau of Statistics' latest figures show national wheat exports have increased every year.
Total Australian wheat exports were just over two million tonnes in August alone, an increase of almost 60% on the same month last year. The Federal Agriculture Minister Joe Ludwig says it continues the trend of increasing exports since deregulation in 2008-09.
Wheat exports grew from 14.5 million tonnes that financial year to almost 19 million tonnes in 2010-11. Exports for 2011-12 have already reached 23 million tonnes. The increase in exports also coincided with improved seasonal conditions for many grain growing areas.
