India's 2011-12 wheat output to reach 86 million tonnes
Indian current crop year wheat production is expected to hit a record 86 million tonnes, according to Farm Secretary P.K. Basu Monday (Oct 10).
"If there is no terminal heat or rust problem, there is no reason why we cannot achieve a record production," Basu said.
Indiaachieved an all-time high wheat production of 85.93 million tonnes in the last crop year ended June 30. Wheat is sown during October-November and harvested from March-April.
