Romanian capital's August meat output up on-year

 


The meat output (carcass) of Bucharest increased in August 2010 in poultry and pork as compared with the same period last year, according to data released Friday (Oct 8) by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).


The production of bovine meat dropped from 11,338 down to 10,743 tonnes in the abovementioned interval, the poultry meat production increased from 26,837 tonnes up to 27,780 tonnes, while pork production increased from 25,050 tonnes up to 25,126 tonnes, and the production of ovine and caprine dropped from 3,824 tonnes down to to 2,310 tonnes.


Compared with the same month of 2009, the number of animals and birds killed in August 2010 decreased in all species.


Compared with July 2010, the number of animals and birds dropped in bovines, ovine, caprine and poultry, while in pork increased. The carcass weight dropped in bovine, ovine and caprine and increased in pork and poultry.


Compared with July 2010, the total number of bovines slaughtered and their carcass weight decreased by 11% and by 8.2%, respectively. In specialised industrial units, the number of bovines slaughtered and their carcass weight increased by 9.1% and 12.3%, respectively. In August 2010, the share of bovines slaughtered in specialised industrial units accounted for 18.5% of the total bovines slaughtered.
