Turkey's volunteer group aims to boost fish consumption
Turkey's Fish Promotion Group is launching a fresh campaign after a restructuring process coordinated among exporter unitons, fishery product federation and fishery unions.
The group would be placing its advertisements at fish retail shops, near hospitals and schools.
Fish Promotion Group Vice President Akın Özder told the Anatolia news agency that while per capital fish consumption in the EU was 22 kilogrammes and in Japan it was 32 kilogrammes, in Turkey, it was only 4.5 kilogrammes.
The group aims to educate people on the benefits of fish consumption and have prepared thousands of handouts for distribution to the elderly and children.
The group was established seven years ago by volunteers to increase fish consumption in Turkey.
