French farmers incurring losses of US$43 per pig

According to the regional branch of the farmers organisation (FNSEA) in Brittany, French pig farmers are currently losing EUR 30 (US$42.50) per pig.

At the leading pig market in the country - Marche du Porc Breton (MPB) in Plerin - pigs were being sold last week for EUR 1.149 per kilogramme.

Meanwhile, costs have risen to EUR 1.57 per kilogramme, according to industry leaders.

The French pig industry has called on Brussels to provide more support to export European pork to Asian countries.
