China exports dairy cattle to Mongolia
On Sep 29, China began its first export of diary cows to Mongolia. The 83 Holstein dairy cows, which were from farmlands in Inner Mongolia's Suniteyou Qi and Siziwang Qi, were delivered from the border city of Erenhot to Mongolia.
Landlocked Mongolia is currently focused on building up its dairy industry, and is planning to set up more dairy production regions within the next three years. This first export of dairy cattle from China would be delivered to a farm in the outskirts of Ulaanbataar, the capital city.
"This is the first time that I am purchasing dairy cows from China, but I am confident about the quality of these cows, given that the Inner Mongolian authorities have put in place strict quarantine procedures to prevent animal disease outbreaks, " said Burinai, a farmer owner.
"I intend to buy another 200 heads of dairy cows later," Burinai added.
According to Feng Yongsheng, a veterinary inspection official with the Erenhot Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, China had also exported horses, breeder hog and poultry and other live animals from Erenhot to Mongolia in the past few years, but this is the first time that dairy cows are exported through this exit point.
