China's Jiangxi to boost hog production

In an effort to raise hog rearing standards and satisfy growing consumer demand for pork, China's National Development and Reform Commission had recently approved the setting up of 174 standard pig farms in Jiangxi province.

The RMB110-million fund needed for these projects will be provided by the provincial government of Jiangxi. Of the 174 farms, 20 of them will be located near the provincial capital, Nanchang.

Presently, the government is already providing subsidies to hog producers in the province, mainly medium-scale producers that sells more than 500 heads of hog per year.
