UK 2009 wheat production is down 18 percent on-year at 14.2 million tonnes, according to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' (DEFRA) provisional estimates published Thursday (Oct 8).

The fall in output is due to lower yields and a 14-percent decrease in planted area, said Defra.
