Canada's 2009-10 grain ending stocks seen higher than before
                   


Ending stocks of Canada's grain and oilseed crops in 2009-10 (August-July) will be higher than previously estimated but will still be under the 2008-09 level, according to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's market analysis division.

 

Ending stocks of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2009-10 were forecast at 12.145 million tonnes, up from an August 28 forecast of 10.186 million but below the 2008-09 level of 15.019 million.

 

Ag Canada forecast production of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2009-10 at 61.739 million tonnes, up from the August level of 59.465 million tonnes but still below the 2008-09 level of 72.635 million.

 

The eight major grains and oilseeds are canola, flaxseed, soy, wheat, oats, barley, corn and rye.

 

Total exports of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2009-10 were pegged at 29.983 million tonnes, up from the August projection of 29.158 million and below the 2008-09 level of 34.18 million.

 

Total domestic usage of the various grains and oilseeds for the 2009-10 crop year was estimated at 37.132 million tonnes, Ag Canada said. This was up from the late August forecast of 35.975 million and the 2008-09 level of 35.888 million.
