Russia grain exports in the past three months near-double
The agriculture ministry said on Thursday, 2 October 2008, Russia exported 6.10 million tonnes of grain from July 1, the beginning of the current marketing year, to September.30, nearly doubling on the year.
The total includes 5.42 million tonnes of wheat, 681,000 tonnes of barley and 2,900 tonnes of rye.
In September, grain exports totalled 2.84 million tonnes, including 2.51 tonnes of wheat and 328,000 tonnes of barley. This compares with grain exports of 2.37 million tonnes in August, including 2.18 million tonnes of wheat and 188,000 tonnes of barley.
The Russian agriculture ministry forecasts this year's grain harvest at 95 million-100 million tonnes and exports in the 2008-2009 marketing year at 20 million-25 million tonnes.
