US pork records 14th straight year of export growth

 

 

Following increased volume of exports in the first half of 2006, US pork is slated for its 14th consecutives year of export growth, the US National Pork Board said.

 

The volume of total US pork exports increased nearly 10 percent for the first six months of 2006, compared to the same period in 2005, while value rose 4 percent.

 

The National Pork Board and the US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) are constantly on the lookout for opportunities to expand US pork activities and education internationally, said Wayne Peugh, president of the National Pork Board.

 

During the period, export volumes to Russia doubled while those to Hong Kong nearly tripled. Exports to South Korea rose 57 percent and those to Taiwan rose 31 percent. Exports to Mexico grew 20 percent while those to Canada grew a more modest 6 percent.
