More Exports of Canada Beef Products

As international borders continue to re-open and exports of Canadian beef products increase steadily, countries around the world are showing their confidence in the safety and quality of Canadian beef, says Canada Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Lyle Vanclief.

Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Jamaica, Philippines, Russia and Trinidad and Tobago have recently partially lifted their bans on Canadian products. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is currently working with the authorities in many of these countries on the conditions necessary for the resumption of exports.

"Our science is sound, our beef is safe, and our customers around the world recognize that and are increasingly showing their confidence in Canadian agriculture," said Mr. Vanclief.

"While our number one priority continues to be the full re-opening of the U.S. border to live Canadian cattle, we consider every step forward to be a victory for the Canadian agriculture industry."

As of today, Canadian companies have shipped more than 44m pounds of boxed beef, veal, processed beef products and bovine livers to the United States. In addition, shipments to Mexico are most likely to begin within days.

Mr. Vanclief noted work continues on fully re-opening the borders of Canada's other trading partners.
