French corn output to increase

The French farming ministry Friday (Oct 7) raised the outlook for 2011-12 corn yield, expecting the crop to reach 14.9 million tonnes, 0.8 million tonnes more than last month's forecast.

In 2010, France harvested 13.9 million tonnes of corn, some 7.2% below the ministry's current estimate for the 2011-12 crop.

The Agriculture Ministry also revised higher its expectations for the country's 2011-12 soft wheat crop to 34.1 million tonnes from 33.5 million tonnes a month before.

In 2010, France harvested 35.7 million tonnes, the ministry said in a report.
