UK beef processors adopt new carcass grading technology
In a drive to improve consistency and transparency in the grading of beef carcasses, Sainsbury's and ABP are to implement automated grading technology for their UK fresh beef production.
This technology provides a number of significant benefits for the entire beef supply chain, and could ultimately lead to farmers being paid according to an analysis of meat cuts and meat yield.
The intention is for this new technology to be introduced in ABP's Northern Ireland and Scottish abattoirs from January 1, 2011. Other ABP processing facilities will come on stream as soon as it is practically possible.
