UK's August animal feed sales output surpass 2009 by 11%
August retail production of animal feed in UK was 76,670 tonnes, up 10.9% against the same period of last year, figures from UK's farming body showed Thursday (Oct 7).
According to data from the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, this brings the cumulative total for the first two months of the 2010-11 crop year to 1.5 million tonnes, up 8.7% compared with last year.
Barley use increased 4.6% on the month from 72,200 tonnes in July to 78,500 tonnes in August, data showed. But wheat, the most used feed grain, fell 1,600 tonnes during the same period from 219,600 tonnes in July to 218,000 tonnes in August.
The data also showed that production of cattle and poultry feed grew by 12.9% and 7.4%, respectively.
