EU and Morocco to boost mutual farm trade

The EU and Morocco have reached an agreement for a mutual liberalisation in farm trade, granting each other better access to their respective markets.

The agreement will benefit 96 percent of Morocco's agricultural exports to the EU, while European farm exports to Morocco will see its preferential treatment rising to 62 percent.

EU wheat exports will benefit from a tariff reduction of 38 percent of a quantity of 1.06 million tonnes. But the quota will be reduced if Morocco's wheat production exceeds 2.1 million tonnes.

The quota will be reduced to 400,000 tonnes if Morocco's wheat production is equal or larger than three million tonnes.

The agreement also includes the tariffs reductions and increase of import quotas for many agriculture products including dairy products, poultry and eggs, fruits, and cereal grains.

The agreement is subject to the Commission and the Council for approval.
