Western Canadian harvest 86 percent complete

Harvest operations are nearing completion across the Canadian Prairies, the Canadian Wheat Board said Monday (Oct 5).

The CWB said the harvest was 86 percent complete, with virtually all of the cereal grains harvested aside from some areas of northern Saskatchewan.

Moderate to heavy rains and scattered frosts in eastern Saskatchewan and western Manitoba slowed some harvest activity during the past week, the CWB said.

Significant frosts in Alberta and parts of Saskatchewan during the week officially ended the growing season in those regions, said the CWB. Overall, conditions have turned cooler across the Prairies, with temperatures generally one to four degrees Celsius below normal, said the CWB.
