India marriage season may boost poultry prices

The onset of the marriage season in India is expected to help boost prices of poultry products as much as 15 percent.

Wholesale chicken prices have climbed to Rs60-62 a kg after the Navaratras festival, but may increase further to Rs70 a kg in another 15 days' time, said Poultry Federation of India spokesperson Rickey Thaper.

During the 'Navaratras', wholesale prices were at Rs54 a kg, with the farmers withholding stocks in anticipation of good rates during the marriage and winter season demand, he said.

Thaper said this rise in prices will benefit farmers and help them earn great profits following a sharp decline in poultry feed prices.

Soymeal prices have dropped to Rs17,000 per tonne from Rs19,000 per tonne a month ago, Thaper said.
