Informa Said To Peg US Corn Crop At 11.375 Billion Bushels


Informa Economics Inc., an analytical firm based in Memphis and formerly known as Sparks Companies Inc., was said to have pegged the 2004-05 U.S. corn crop at 11.375 billion bushels, with an average yield of 155.0 bushels per acre, trade sources said early Tuesday.
 
The firm was said to have forecast the 2004-05 soybean crop at 3.107 billion bushels, with an average yield of 42.2 bushels.
 
Currently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts the 2004-05 U.S. corn crop at 10.961 billion bushels with a yield of 149.4 bushels, and U.S. soybean output at 2.836 billion bushels with a yield of 38.5 bushels.
 
The USDA is scheduled to update its production forecasts for the 2004-05 corn and soybean crops Oct. 12.
 
Ahead of the September crop report, Informa was said to have projected a U.S. corn crop of 11.041 billion bushels and a soybean crop of 2.878 billion bushels.
 
In the previous report, the USDA listed 2003-04 corn production at 10.114 billion bushels and U.S. 2003 soybean output at 2.418 billion bushels.
