Nuscience opens new plant in Drongen, Belgium

This month marks the official opening of the Nuscience Group's new, state-of-the-art plant in Drongen, Ghent, Belgium.

The construction of the plant started at the end of 2013 and came on the heels of a commissioned facility in Tianjin, China.

Representing a major simplification of production logistics, the facility will replace current production sites in Drongen and Baasrode. The plant will also double the current production capacity to more than 10,000 tonnes per month.

Besides providing higher production capacity, the Drongen infrastructure will also produce Nuscience Belgium's entire product portfolio at a single location.

Various best practices and innovations from other sectors have been applied to the plant while the process configuration and silo park provide the flexibility to respond promptly to market demands and changing technologies within the ingredient and premix sector.

With the facility, an important component in Nuscience's active investment strategy for supporting international expansion has been fulfilled.

In light of this recent development, Patrick Keereman, the current CEO of the Nuscience Group, will relinquish his position to Johan De Schepper, who joined the company as COO two years ago.

De Schepper began his career in the agricultural sector, working for the Amylum Group where he held various international management positions.

After an eight-year stint at a venture capital group connected to the University of Leuven (KULRD), he was charged with the management and restructuring of the INVE Group (premixes, aquaculture and additives).

Keereman started as a general director of Vitamex in 1989 with the acquisition of the Baasrode production site.

Under his leadership, Nuscience underwent a rapid growth and witnessed a tenfold increase of revenue over 10 years.
