Ukraine raises September grain exports to 1.33 million tonnes

Ukraine's grain exports rose slightly from 1.3 million in August to 1.33 million tonnes in September, analyst UkrAgroConsult said Monday (Oct 4).

The consultancy said in a report that last month Ukraine sold abroad 610,200 tonnes of wheat, 552,600 tonnes of barley and 127,300 tonnes of corn.

UkrAgroConsult said Ukraine's grain exports had totalled 3.37 million tonnes in the first three months of the current 2010/11 season.

Ukraine exported 6.6 million tonnes of grain in July-September 2009, including 2.7 million in September 2009.

However, farm minister Mykola Prysyazhnyuk said last week that July-September grain exports totalled 3.7 million tonnes.

The Ukrainian government has said the ex-Soviet republic is likely to export 12.7 million tonnes of grain in the 2010/11 season, which runs from July to June, against 21.5 million tonnes in 2009/10. A fall in 2010 harvest to about 38 million tonnes from 46.0 million in 2009 was the main reason for the smaller shipments.
