Drought hits Australian grain yield

A drought in Western Australia has caused the state's grain crop supplies to drop by 1.3 million tonnes, the second smallest crop in the last 20 years.

Western Australia's grain crop continues to become smaller by each day, due to a week of continuous hot weather.

Colin Tutt, General Manager of CBH Group, says many people still do not realise the severity of the drought in the west.

"This covers an enormous area and it is expanding every single day," Tutt said. "The true extent of this drought on our economy and our rural people is not really understood," he said.
