UK 2004-05 Wheat Output Seen At 15.836 Million MT
 
U.K. wheat production in the 2004-05 marketing year is expected to reach 15.836 million metric tons, up 10.37% on the previous season, the U.K.'s National Farmers Union said Monday.
 
Total production in England is estimated to reach 14.755 million tons, in Scotland 899,000 tons, in Wales 121,000 tons and in Northern Ireland 61,000 tons.
 
Average yield stood at 7.96 tons a hectare against 7.80 tons/hectare in 2003-04, the NFU said in a release.
 
For winter barley, total U.K. production in 2004-05 is expected to reach 2.750 million tons, down 4.12% from the previous season, the NFU said.
 
Total winter barley production in England reached 2.236 million tons, in Scotland 414,000 tons, in Wales 65,000 tons and in Northern Ireland 34,000 tons. Yield averaged 6.52 tons/hectare, from 6.30 tons/hectare in 2003-04.
 
For spring barley, total U.K. production in 2004-05 is pegged at 3.303 million tons, down 6.37% from the previous season.
 
Total spring barley production in England reached 1.591 million tons, in Scotland 1.560 million tons, in Wales 72,000 tons and in Northern Ireland 80,000 tons. Yield averaged 5.68 tons/hectare in 2004-05, unchanged from the previous season.
 
For oilseed rape, total U.K. production reached 1.341 million tons in 2004-05, down 1.36% from 2003-04, the NFU said.
