Vietnamese tra, basa fishes rank 6th in US' most consumed seafood
The US National Fisheries Institute (NFI) has announced that from the 9th in 2010, Vietnamese tra and basa fishes have jumped three rankings as the 6th in 2011's 10 most consumed types of seafood in the US.
According to the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the US became Viet Nam's second biggest tra importer in the first eight months of this year with US$254 million, up 29.9% on-year.
The Vietnamese entered the list of the top 10 most favoured seafood in the US for the first time in 2009.
The 10 most consumed types of seafood in the US in 2011 include shrimp, tuna, Alaska Pollock, tilapia, tra and basa (pangasius), catfish, crab, cod fish and clams.
In 2011, an American consumed an average of 0.629 pound of basa and tra.
