Nestle Lanka gets highest monthly milk collection record

Nestle Sri Lanka had collected five million litres of milk from 18,000 dairy farmers in rural Sri Lanka, which was the highest monthly collection to date.

"Developing and contributing to Sri Lanka's rural economy has always been close to Nestle's heart, because the overall well-being of our farmers and the rural communities is intrinsic for the long term success of our business," Alois Hofbauer, managing director of Nestle Lanka Plc, said in a statement.

The firm says it expects to contribute LKR2.5 billion (US$19 million) to the rural economy this year. The firm has an agri-services unit that provides advice and technical support to farmers.

The statement quoted Samarathna, a dairy farmer as saying the firm had provided technical assistance, assisted in getting micro-finance, cattle insurance and drugs.

Nestle says its Nespray, Milo, Milkmaid and Nestomalt branded dairy based products use domestic fresh milk.
