Ukraine's Q1 grain exports reach 3.7 million tonnes for 2010/11 season

Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysyazhnyuk announced Friday (Oct 1) that Ukraine exported 3.7 million tonnes of grain in July-September 2010, the first quarter of the 2010/11 season.

Ukraine exported 6.6 million tonnes of grain in July-September 2009.

Prysyazhnyuk stated that additional 300,000 tonnes of grain are in ports and should be sent abroad in the near future.

The minister gave no data for the exports in September. Ukraine exported 2.7 million tonnes of grain in September 2009 and, according to analyst UkrAgroConsult, sold abroad 1.2 million tonnes of grain in September1-27, 2010.

The government has said the ex-Soviet republic is likely to export 12.7 million tonnes of grain in the 2010/11 season, which runs from July to June, against 21.5 million tonnes in 2009/10.

It said a fall in 2010 harvest to about 38 million tonnes from 46 million in 2009 was the main reason for the smaller shipments.
