Russian beef output down 3% in August

Russia produced 17,300 tonnes of beef in August, 3% less than in August 2009, but up 10.4% from July this year, the state statistics service reported Friday (Oct 1).

Without giving output figures, the statistics service said beef output in January-August fell by 3% compared with the same months in 2009.

Meanwhile, Nicaragua will export 12,000 tonnes of beef to Russia, the country's first beef shipment to Russia, after its trade mission visited to meet with producers, said Ariel Bucardo, the Nicaraguan ministry of Forestry and Farming (Magfor).

Zara Tolstenkova, general manager of the Russian meat importer Carnica Kromexpo-N, said the visit should mean that the supply of Nicaraguan beef to the Russian Federation can be made official.
