Bangladeshi shrimp exports face frequent rejection

 
 

Shipment of Bangladeshi exported shrimp has returned to the country frequently due to mixing of harmful chemical elements.

 

Production of safe shrimp at hatchery, farm and depot level is being hampered due to use of harmful elements. Its export is on verge of threat for the reason, said speakers at a workshop in Nawalparasi on Tuesday (Oct 28).

 

Bangladesh government, EU, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have jointly taken up a five-year long project for improving the quality of the country's shrimp. Shrimp is considered as one of the country's important exportable items.

 

Over one hundred shrimp farmers, shrimp depot owners, ice factory owners and hatchery owners took part in the workshop organised by local fisheries department.
