Australian beef sales double in UAE

Consumption of Australian beef has nearly doubled in the United Arab Emirates, Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) recently announced.

Consumption of Australian beef has doubled from 10 to 12 tonnes a month one year ago to 20 tonnes today.

Australian beef is recognised for its premium cuts and is well known in the region for being halal, the MLA said.

The increasing sophistication of the people in the country has made them more conscious about fine dining and all the attendant refinements, said Ian Ross, Regional Manager of Meat & Livestock Australia Limited (MLA). The population is thus able to appreciate the finer qualities of Australian beef, he added.

Furthermore, high disposable incomes, liberal trade policies, zero or low import duties and limited local production of meat have all favoured meat imports.

The on-going construction boom, including the establishment of various  international hotel chains in the area, also favoured future prospects, MLA said.
