US hog numbers rise slightly in September 2005
 

US hog inventory totalled 61.5 million head as of September 1, 2005, up slightly from the same period last year.

Breeding inventory totalled 5.97 million head, up less than one percent year-on-year, and down less than one percent from the previous quarter.

The US pig crop for June to August 2005 totalled 26.3 million head, a slight rise from 2004. Meanwhile, sows farrowing during this period registered 2.90 million head, a slight fall from last year.
